The Drenched Couch Syndrome (Psalm 6, 36, 66, 96, 126)

Psalm 6, 36, 66, 96, 126

Anybody else been here lately?

Psalm 6:6-7 I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.
I sure was recently. Just read my poor me post from last week. I found something interesting today in my reading of the Psalms. (These “random” chapters sure seem to be fitting together quite nicely.)
I thought the writer of Psalm 126 had a pretty good remedy for drenched couch syndrome.
Psalm 126:5-6 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
Why not get up off that couch and go do some sowing? You don’t even have to dry your tears or get your act together! Tell others the good news of his salvation. Because even if you are in a pit now... He HAS saved you and that salvation is good for a lifetime! Or sow by serving somebody else. Sow by a kind word or a seat on somebody else's drenched couch as you stroke their hair and weep with them. The awesome promise is that you will return with songs of joy! Not only that... you will come back with full hands... a harvest!
I love that we don’t have to go rejoicing... although that’s okay too! We are just called to go.

I love that I serve a God who dwells on high but can also be found at rock bottom!
Psalm 96:1-3
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
