Jesus even had his disciples get some down time.
Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." Mark 6:31But do not miss one very important detail, the disciples had been ministering and were worn out. Scripture says in the previous verse:
The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Mark 6:30
When God rested on the Sabath day he had spent the previous 6 days creating the world. Jesus himself, whenever he was found "getting away and resting" always seemed to have just been ministering or preparing for some sort of ministry. There seems to be a whole lot of talk about "me time" these days, and while recouping is a very biblical principle let us not lose sight of the work that is at hand.
Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. John 4:35
He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Ephesians 4:28
Yes, rest when your body is in need of it. But do not deceive yourself into thinking you deserve a break if you are not also doing the work.
P.S. I LOVE comments, I'd love to hear from you!
